They didn't need the flashlights for long. At the bottom of the stairs was a doorway leading to an enormous, well-lit corridor filled with dozens if not hundreds of items that dazzled the eye. Chelsea and Jeff wandered around the room, awestruck.

Everywhere they looked, they saw an entrance to one of literature's great fantasy worlds: Alice's rabbit hole. The wardrobe to Narnia. Wayside School. There were no other people in the room, and no signs or other information, but somehow Jeff and Chelsea sensed these were not mere museum displays or replicas--they were the actual gateways they'd read about.

Their curiosity was piqued, yet they restrained themselves from touching anything--until they reached the center of the room, where large neon arrows directed their attention to three tall pillars. One had a rabbit carved into it, one a cat, and one the classic sitcom character ALF. Before the pillars was a sign--finally, in a room full of book references, they saw text for the first time.

"Find your fate," the sign read. "Fix your fingers on the fluffy feet of luck, the feisty feline, or the Form of Alien Life. One leads to fine feasting, one to fierce frolicking, and the other to final freedom."

"Which one should we choose?" asked Chelsea.

"I guess it depends on what you want to get," said Jeff. "Food, folks, or fun? Or rather, feasting, frolicking, or freedom?"

"Well, if freedom means I get set free from this room, I don't want that--because this is amazing," Chelsea said. "But which of the other two is better? And how do we figure out which pillar goes with each choice?"
